Hard work, perseverance and resolve to overcome obstacles are all that is required. Come to classes consistently, and don’t overload your schedule with too many other activities. Making the changes in your mind and body to become a Black Belt is hard work, but they will occur given time. There are few things that you’ll achieve in your life that can compare with earning a Black Belt! I remember this phrase, “A Black Belt is just a white belt who never quit!” You too can be a Black Belt…Don’t give up your dream! As a new student there are many procedures, rule, and practices that you will need to learn and internalize. It is important that you be very clear on expectations and procedures for you to become a disciplined martial artist. 1) Uniforms : All uniforms need to have the Pro Taekwondo logo on the back of the uniform in good condition. All Uniforms need to be neat and clean with belts tied properly. We suggest that they be washed and pressed after every class. No other type of patches are allowed on the uniform unless they are patches offered or approved by your Instructor. 2) Exams : All students test every two months for new belt ranking. The test date and time will be posted two weeks in advance. There is a fee for all belt promotion examination, which covers for the new belt, certificate of promotion, wood for board breaking, and other testing procedure materials. Testing requirements include: 1) a minimum of 16 lessons since receiving current ranking; 2) respectful attitude in class; 3) achieving the required physical proficiencies; 4) loyalty and dedication to Pro Taekwondo School; 5) satisfactory completion of the bi-weekly "Job List" form which outlines additional responsibilities as a martial artist (for students under 18 years old); 6) satisfactory completion of "Intent to Promote" form (for students under 18 years old); 7) obtaining two blue stripes (1 per month) for every physical proficiency test, and four red stripes (1 every two weeks) for every completed "job list." All forms and school announcements are posted daily in the Member's area which is password protected. If you are a school member and need access to the Member's area, please e-mail us at MasterErik@protkd.com for login and password info. 3) Sparring Gear : All students obtaining the rank of yellow belt, and the age of 7 or older is eligible to qualify for the Black Belt Club. Please see Master Erik for a Black Belt Club Qualification Application. Black Belt Club members are eligible to attend an extra class on Fridays. Friday's classes are specially dedicated to Olympic style sparring. Each student wishing to attend Friday's classes is required to purchase approved sparring gear from Pro Taekwondo School. Everyone must have an equal level of protection, so by wearing equipment supplied by the school, we can be assured everyone will be safe. Please do not bring equipment purchased from outside sources. Student Etiquette : Students and instructors will bow at the edge of the workout floor each time they enter and/or leave the classroom area, even if the area is not being used for workout. (The bow is an Oriental "handshake" used in showing respect and feeling of community toward the flags, fellow students, and instructors.) Students unavoidably tardy for class should bow at the edge of the workout floor and wait to be recognized by the instructor, then ask permission to join the class. Students should use the restroom before coming to class. If necessary, it is acceptable to ask permission to be excused during class time. Students will respond "Yes/No, Sir", or "Yes/No, Ma'am", as appropriate, in all conversations with instructors. Students will stand respectfully and bow whenever greeting an instructor, in or out of the classroom. Students are encouraged to participate in class enthusiastically; however, they should avoid unnecessary conversation and speak only at the proper times. Students not understanding a direction have a responsibility to raise their hands and ask that it be repeated. A student's personal appearance in class is a reflection of his or her pride. Cleanliness of person and uniform is imperative. For everyone's safety, fingernails and toenails should be neatly clipped. There is to be no smoking or use of tobacco products in the school at any time; there will be no smoking, use of tobacco products, or consumption of alcohol at any time while in uniform. There will be no use of profanity on the school premises or at any Pro Taekwondo School function, class, or activity. Permission of the student's instructor is required before a student may attend another martial arts school, or compete in another martial arts school's competition. Students will not wear shoes on the workout floor. No gum chewing is permitted. No jewelry, other than a wedding ring, will be worn with the uniform. Students, parents, and guests will not converse with any person involved in a class session without the permission of the instructor.
